About The UCSTA
Completely unaided by the colonial British Government, The University College of Science and Technology was founded on March 27, 1914, by the great visionary Sir Asutosh Mukherjee, the then Vice Chancellor of the University of Calcutta, using the generous donation from Sir Taraknath Palit and Sir Rashbehari Ghosh who together donated nearly thirty seven and half lakhs of rupees and the premises, presently known as “Rashbehari Siksha Prangan” at 92, Acharya Prafulla Chandra Road, Kolkata – 700 009 and “Taraknath Palit Siksha Prangan” at 35, Ballygunge Circular Road, Kolkata – 700 019.
The first batch of teachers included Acharya Prafulla Chandra Ray, Sir Chandrasekhara Venkata Raman, and Sisir Kumar Mitra, and the legendary 1915 M.Sc. batch comprising Satyendranath Bose, Meghnad Saha, Jnanchandra Ghosh, Jnanendranath Mukherjee, and others. The College served as the cradle of Indian modern sciences, winning the Nobel Prize by Sir C.V. Raman in 1930. Acharya Ray established the Bengal Chemical & Pharmaceutical Works, a historic step towards national self-reliance. UCSTA continued its expansion with the state-of-the-art Technology Campus at Salt Lake.

Faculty of Science
Consisting of twenty-four departments/centres situated across two historic campuses: Rashbehari Siksha Prangan (Rajabazar Science College) at 92 A.P.C. Road, Kolkata 700009 and Taraknath Palit Siksha Prangan (Ballygunge Science College) at 35 Ballygunge Circular Road, Kolkata 700019.

Faculty of Engineering
Consisting of nine departments and schools situated across Rajabazar Science College, Ballygunge Science College, and the modern APC Siksha Prangan (Technology Campus) at JD-2, Sector-III, Salt Lake, Kolkata 700106.

Faculty of Agriculture
Consisting of six departments under the Institute of Agricultural Science situated at Taraknath Palit Siksha Prangan (35 Ballygunge Circular Road, Annex Building, 51/2 Hazra Road) and the dedicated Agricultural Research Farm at Baruipur, 24 Parganas (South).

Arts, Music & Home Sc.
Consisting of the Department of Home Science situated at 20B & 20E Judges Court Road, Kolkata 700027, and the Departments of Performing Arts and Music (formerly Bengal Music College).
